James Athorn gets the cash at the Barney Miller Classic
The 10th Annual Barney Miller Classic went off with a bang once again at Sawtell last weekend with our team riders James Athorn and Gareth Budge battling it out in the open mens final. The weekend started with an auction night at Barrels Restaurant in Sawtell (a great bar) with Mick Fanning being there to rev up the crew into forking out for the great stuff up on offer. All proceeds go toward helping someone, or a charity that Barney nominates. In the end it was James Athorn who done what was needed to grab the winner takes all $2500 and was a deserved winner. James made the waves look a lot better than they were with a fluid display of modern high performance surfing.Gareth had one high score under his belt and was chasing another to get back in the game, but with rapidly deteriorating conditions things didnt come his way. Flanagan took out the Masters with good mate Rob Deane second. A big yell out to Barney, organizes and the sponsors for putting on such a great weekend. We all look forward to next years event, and with a prize purse of $5000 allready being put up for grabs, things are beginning to get serious.
